OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF HEALTH TO BUTARO HOSPITAL

Today, 10th Feb 2023, the Honorable Minister of Health, Dr Sabin Nsanzimana, has visited Butaro Hospital to see and learn about its services and to understand different challenges which are in place.

After his arrival (at 10:30 am), The Minister of Health was welcomed by the Burera District Vice Mayor ASOC with the Director General of Butaro Hospital who immediately lead the hospital tour. Within the tour, the DG of Butaro hospital briefly explained the hospital service package and let the visitors learn about them at the service stations. The PIH representatives were present to intervene wherever possible as the one who are managing the Butaro hospital expansion project.

At Reception area of Butaro hospital, Dr Sabin NSANZIMANA, the Minister of Rwanda Health spoke to patients who were waiting for service and they address some challenges they meet during the care which are based on the shortage of the staff of the hospital.

The hospital tour has explored different service as follow: Outpatient, Laboratory, Surgery, Oncology adult ward and Pediatric ward. The hospital remodeling and expansion project have also been an interest to the Minister of health whereby he has recommended some improvements.

 

After the tour, The Minister of Health met Heads of Departments and services to understand their problems and challenges they meet at work. This session started with DG’s presentation, which briefly explained the entire life of Butaro hospital that is working hard to meet the level two teaching hospital package. The presentation has mentioned the issues of the staff motivation, which has been stuck from one year ago due to the financial reasons. As highlighted, turnover, poor service, delivery and stress have been result from those challenges.

The Minister’s closing remarks have appreciated Butaro staff and encouraged them to keep working with passion without relying on the compensation; and he has granted to work on social well-being of health staff as the Rwanda Health System targets wide vision of itself, which will make it beneficial for both workers and patients.
